Scenario 4

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

You are traveling on a brushy trail between Eagle and Central at night. It's not too cold, only -20 C (about -5 F), but blacker than black. The only light is the cone of light from your head lamp, lighting up your team. Your leader's ears suddenly go from flat against his head to straight up and pointing forward. The team immediately speeds up, with every ear in the team now up and pointed forward. The team continues to surge ahead. You are now going from 10-15 miles/hr, and the trail is going by faster than you can register it in the light of your headlamp.

  • What could be up ahead?
  • What do you do to slow the team down and regain control?
  • What thoughts are running through your head?
